About Leighann

Leighann Calentine’s daughter “Q” was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of three in 2008. As a seasoned parenting and lifestyle blogger, Leighann began sharing their family’s story online, quickly becoming a go-to source of information and support to other families with a diabetic child. D-Mom Blog is frequently included among top diabetes blogs and online resources and boasts a Google Page Rank of 5.

In 2012, Spry published her book Kids First, Diabetes Second: tips for parenting a child with type 1 diabetes. While families are educated by their medical care team in the basics of diabetes care, this book fills the gaps showing families that their children can have happy lives despite their medical condition. The book is filled with tips and personal experiences on everything from navigating the school system, play dates and sleep overs, sick days, teen years, travel, and of course cooking.
